Janiva's childhood appeared idyllic on the surface but hidden violence and alcoholism tore the family apart ultimately leading to the suicide of both parents. Running from this horror to a life on the streets at age 14 she endured homelessness, violence, addiction 12 foster home placements, 4 involuntary psych hospitalizations and a growing obsession with ending her own life.
